The University of Redlands School of Music will offer four different camps for music students this summer. The Pokorny Seminar Pre-College Program will run from June 27 through July 3. High school age brass players can now attend the Pre-College Low Brass Seminar. Directed by Scott Sutherland, the Pre-College program includes many of the clinics and concerts from the Pokorny Low Brass Seminar plus special workshops and ensembles for the high-school age low brass players. The Pre-College Seminar will begin on Saturday, June 27 and conclude on Friday, July 3. Cost for the program is $600 including room and board or $375 for commuting students. Registration forms and additional information can be found at www.redlands.edu/pokornyseminar. Percussion Camp will run from June 27 to July 3 and is designed for pre-college percussion students to perform, learn, and enhance their skills in all areas of percussion. This 6-day camp offers master classes, clinics, and performances by University percussion and drum set faculty Bill Schlitt, Yuri Inoo, and Joel Taylor, as well as world-class guest clinicians from all over California. Students will receive hands-on instruction on concert percussion (timpani, snare drum, 2- and 4-mallet instruments, all accessory instruments), drum set, and world/hand percussion. The camp will end with a final percussion ensemble concert presented by the participants. Registration forms and additional information can be found at http://www.redlands.edu/academics/school-of-music/percussion_camp.aspx. Harp Camp will run July 20 through 25. This summer’s focus will be on preparing and performing the orchestra, concerts, solo and choral works (involving harp) of Debussy, Fauré and Ravel. Ensemble pieces will be transcriptions, for harp ensemble, of works by these composers and the West Coast premiere of the second movement of the Mozart Concerto in C for Flute and Harp, arranged by John Wickey for solo flute, solo harp and harp ensemble. This year’s clinicians are Lynne Aspnes, Mary Dropkin, and John Wickey. Tuition for Harp Camp is $400. Housing is available for an additional fee. The scholarship application deadline is July 1. Registration forms and additional information can be found at www.redlands.edu/harpcamp. Piano Camp will run July 27 through 31. The University of Redlands Piano Camp is a unique summer program encompassing a wide variety of study and exploratory experiences for Intermediate to Advanced Pianists, ages 11-18. The goal is to enhance a student’s enjoyment of the piano and foster a deeper appreciation of music while working together with teachers and other students in a supportive community. Camp activities are oriented toward exploring the world of music through interactive classes, with opportunities for both solo and ensemble performance. Offerings include Skills Classes (such as Accompanying, Sight-reading, Composition; Introduction to Organ and Harpsichord), as well as Exploratory Classes (including Music and Multimedia, Music and Drama, Music and Dance, Anatomy of the Piano). No audition is required. Application forms and additional information can be found at www.redlandspianocamp.com
