SAN BERNARDINO >> About 150 current and former Cal State San Bernardino students had the opportunity to meet with school district recruiters from throughout the region to interview for teaching positions, some ready to fill immediately. The third annual College of Education job fair, held on March 11, brought in 18 school districts in the Inland Empire to CSUSB. Several students were offered contracts for teaching positions beginning in fall, while others were asked back for second interviews with district principals. “The College of Education is honored to host the District Partner’s job fair each year,” said Michael Verdi, associate dean of CSUSB’s College of Education. “It is an excellent way for our students who are completing their preliminary teacher credentials to interact and meet our district partners who are looking to hire new teachers for the upcoming school year.” The CSUSB teaching credential programs provide the training and experience needed to qualify for California’s multiple-subject and single-subject teaching credentials. Programs available include elementary teacher credentials, secondary teacher credentials, and special education. “I can say that I was truly proud of our students in the professional manner in which they approached the interviews and the outstanding job they did,” said Verdi. “Many of the districts commented that we had highly qualified candidates who were well prepared and professional. I think this says a lot about the quality of the preparation they received in their credential program, which is truly outstanding.” The College of Education at CSUSB is home to an extensive teacher preparation program, including six different teaching credentials, 16 master’s programs and a doctoral program in educational leadership. Organized into four departments, students have options to pursue studies in the areas of teaching, special education, educational administration, guidance counseling, reading and language arts, school psychology, and rehabilitation counseling. Also offered are nationally recognized programs in career and technical studies, instructional technology, teaching English to speakers of other languages, and correctional/alternative education.
