Infant-Toddler Success Offers Free Spring Classes

SAN BERNARDINO>> Infant-Toddler Success, in partnership with the San Bernardino City Unified School District, is offering free, research-based parenting classes for families with children ages 0-3 who live in the District. Classes are open to parents, grandparents and caregivers, including pregnant moms.

“Research shows that 80-85% of brain development happens in the first three years of life. These classes are to help parents to be their children’s first and best teacher,” said Dr. Albert Karnig, founder of the project and President Emeritus of California State University, San Bernardino.

New classes, offered in English and Spanish, start each month and consist of eight two-hour sessions held twice a week for four weeks. In each session, families are met with a friendly, supportive environment where they learn how to create a calmer home and get their children ready for school. Infant-Toddler Success classes are taught by Master’s level Parent Educators who, in addition to their training in Child Development, have received specialized instruction in Infant-Toddler Success’ research-based curriculum.

The experience can also be positive for children. While adults in the family are learning, their children are learning too. Free enriched child care is provided during each session. Bachelor’s level Child Development students use positive child guidance and play to engage them in fun interaction. Each session also offers a light meal, and children’s books to take home. Families that complete the class earn a Certificate of Completion and will receive a special gift. New classes start every month. Beyond the regular classes, Infant-Toddler Success offers free follow-up sessions three times a year, a Parent Helpline, and ongoing engagement until the child enters school.

For the month of May, classes are May 2-May 25, every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Bernardine Baby & Family Center, 403 E. Highland Ave., as well as May 8-June 5, every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Allred Infant/Toddler Development Center, 303 South K Street, San Bernardino.

Spanish classes will be from May 9-June 1, every Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jones Elementary School, 700 N F Street, San Bernardino.
