Dear Moreno Valley Residents,
We’ve tried hard to maintain the lines of communication between City Hall and residents despite the stay-at-home order and the restricted access to City facilities. And I’m proud to say that during this crisis, no other City in Riverside County has been as committed to communicating on a daily basis as has MoVal.
Last week I hosted a live, hour-long coronavirus Question & Answer session using YouTube, Facebook and Zoom to allow for real, two-way communication. After reviewing the coronavirus situation locally, including many of the actions the City Council and I have taken in response to it, and some innovative initiatives to help seniors and businesses, I had time to answer almost 20 questions from residents. In case you missed it, the whole hour-long event is available on the City’s YouTube channel.
One thing that stood out from the questions is the confusion about which level of government has the authority to “reopen the economy.” The statewide stay-at-home order and designation of essential and non-essential businesses comes from the State of California and Governor Newsom. Counties and cities may not relax state orders. We can be more strict than the state, but not less strict.
Please take a look at the Q&A session to learn more about that, and about how your City government is responding to this unprecedented situation.
