Dear Moreno Valley Residents,
Fireworks have long been illegal in Moreno Valley, and for good reasons. Still, each year, for weeks leading up to the Fourth of July, neighborhoods in Moreno Valley and other cities suffer through sometimes massive explosions at all hours of the day and night. This, of course, has nothing to do with celebrating the Declaration of Independence.
Even those fireworks marketed as “safe and sane,” the kind some communities allow, are really just varying degrees of explosives that can easily cause burns and permanent injuries, especially when used by children.
I ask those violating the law with fireworks to please stop and think about your neighbors. Setting off explosives is very disrespectful of the people who have to endure the startling noises. Think about your elderly neighbors, or your very young neighbors, your neighbors’ frightened pets, and your neighbors who are military veterans, carrying the burden of their sacrifice in the form of post-traumatic stress disorder. None of them share in the “fun” they’re being subjected to.
No one should have to endure explosions in their neighborhoods or the risk of fire, physical and mental injury or lost pets that result from them. To report fireworks use, call Moreno Valley Police's non-emergency line at 951-247-8700, option #5.
