Twenty-one people and organizations with exceptional services will be honored at the SB County's Children's Network.

The County of San Bernardino Children’s Network will honor 21 people and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional services and have made a commitment to the safety and well-being of at-risk children and youth. Now in their eighteenth year, the Shine-a-Light on Child Abuse Awards Breakfast will be Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 a.m. in the Valencia Room of the National Orange Show, located at 690 S. Arrowhead Ave, Gate 9 in San Bernardino. Tickets are available for $12 each or a table of 10 for $120. Award recipients will be recognized in a variety of categories with the highest honor awarded to the Children’s Network Lifetime Advocate: • Gary C. Ovitt, Lifetime Advocate, Educator, Policy-maker, former San Bernardino County Supervisor for the Fourth District • Landeros Furniture, Business • Beth Gill, Children and Family Services • Maria Flores, Children and Family Services • Rochford Foundation, Community-Based Provider • Revolution Youth Advocates, Organization • Dianne Wolkenhauer, Ph.D., Department of Behavioral Health • Bernadette Beltran, Department of Public Health • Olga Valdez, Education, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools • Valerio Mejia, Education, San Bernardino City Unified School District • Bob and Laura Breitel, Foster Parents • Aaron Conley, Law Enforcement, San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff • Karen Schmauss, Legal, Deputy District Attorney • Ana Lee, Legal, Deputy Public Defender • Michael A. Markel, Legal, Office of the County Counsel • Iris Robertson, Legal, Victim Advocate, Bureau of Victim Services • Linda McDonald, Medical • Lynda Scherer, Probation • Chris and Amy Hernandez, Volunteer • San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Polygraph Detail Human Services Warehouse Distribution Center Staff Children’s Network Officer Kathy Turnbull calls the honorees “unsung heroes who are doing work to which much of the general public says ‘I could never do that job.’” “The Children’s Network Annual Shine-a-Light on Child Abuse Awards Breakfast is a way to honor and thank them for their work with children and families,” she said. The Children's Network of San Bernardino County works to improve the quality of life for "children at risk" who because of behavior, abuse, neglect, medical needs, educational assessment, and/or detrimental daily living situations are eligible for services from one or more of the member agencies of the Children's Policy Council. Children’s Network is doing its part to help the community achieve the Countywide Vision by ensuring residents have the resources they need to provide the necessities of life to their families.
