Dear Moreno Valley Residents,
Many of us are wondering when the statewide stay-at-home order will be lifted, and rightfully so, since this crisis has affected all our lives, from our children not being in school to unemployment to even restrictions on how we normally go about our day. As Mayor, I hear and understand your concerns.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about this virus. But we know how to slow its spread, and that the stay-at-home order is saving lives. The nation’s top epidemiologists and virologists agree that abandoning what we’ve been doing and sending people back to work and school too soon would amount to condemning many more of our residents to unnecessary and preventable deaths.
As I write this week, 11 members of our community have died from Covid-19, and more will follow if we give up too soon. As hard as it is to accept the restrictions placed on us, no one should have to make the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the economy. So that others may live, please stay home, maintain physical distance, wash your hands regularly and thoroughly, and cover your face if you have to leave home. It’s the least we can do for each other and for the healthcare workers serving on the front lines.
I know this situation is difficult but, now more than ever, we need to do our part. And remember, this is only temporary and soon we will get through this.
