Dear Moreno Valley Residents,
It’s almost time for all of us in Moreno Valley to stand up and be counted in the 2020 federal Census. The national count, to be conducted in April, will have a direct and long-term effect on each of us. The results will help determine the amount of federal funding our region will receive in the coming decade, and it could change the number of U.S. representatives California will have.
Many people without legal immigration status worry that taking part in the Census will make it harder for them to remain in the United States. But don’t worry. Despite talk a year ago about including a citizenship question on the Census, no such question is included.
You’re invited to learn more about the Census – and about temporary Census job opportunities – at a special free 2020 Census Education & Job Recruitment event this Saturday, Feb. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon at the City's Conference & Recreation Center next to City Hall at Alessandro and Frederick.
At this event, you’ll be able to apply to become one of 500,000 temporary Census workers being hired across the country. Here in Riverside County, the jobs pay from $16.50 to $17 per hour.
But more important, Census jobs are an opportunity to help make sure all members of our MoVal community are counted.
Food and refreshments will be available. I hope to meet you there this Saturday!
