Hasan Ikhrata, executive director of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) for the past 10 years, has accepted the position of executive director of the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). His employment agreement was approved by the SANDAG board today.

Said SCAG President Alan D. Wapner, “We are extremely grateful for Hasan’s leadership and accomplishments at SCAG as our executive director over the past decade. Southern California has become a leader in the innovation economy, an even stronger global force in goods movement and international trade, and a national model for regional planning.

“The groundwork for much of this was laid during Hasan’s tenure as executive director and we wish him tremendous success in his new role with SANDAG.  We also look forward to working even more closely with SANDAG for the benefit of all of Southern California.”

SCAG is the nation’s largest metropolitan planning organization, representing 191 cities, six counties and nearly 19 million residents.

Ikhrata expressed gratitude to SCAG’s staff and leadership team for their support, commitment and professionalism during his tenure.

“Our staff, our senior leadership and board are well prepared to build upon our successes, and continue making Southern California a model for other regions to follow,” Ikhrata said. “As I’ve said many times, our incredible team of professionals has the highest reputation in the nation, and I have been so proud to serve as their executive director.”
